From Support to Shift

A story by Diogo Silva – 17 July 2025
Certified Better Scrum Practitioner

A few words first

Diogo joined the BSE Self-Paced with the BSP Exam, and recently became a Certified Better Scrum Practitioner. Not only that, Diogo persisted on the exams until he achieved 100%

To understand better Diogo’s determination, we asked him a few questions to understand his perspective. Diogo replied promptly to 5 questions, here is the log of what he had to say.

Support

Q. How would you describe what made you take the journey to become a Certified BSP?

” I always appreciated how straightforward and honest your insights were”

It really started with you. I had already come across some of your content and I always appreciated how straightforward and honest your insights were. That made me assume the course would follow the same tone, and it totally did.

Also, it felt natural to support your work. When someone shares valuable knowledge openly, it creates a kind of trust and connection, and supporting that just made sense to me.

Connection

Q. What have you learned about yourself?

“What I needed was a better way to connect the dots”

One big thing I realized is that I tend to overcomplicate and overexplain things when trying to share knowledge. The course made me reflect on how powerful it can be to keep things simple, focused, and clear. That’s definitely something I’ll be more intentional about moving forward.

I also learned that I already had a strong foundation, but what I needed was a better way to connect the dots between concepts and explain them in a more practical and digestible way.

Clarity

Q. What specific part of Better Scrum enabled you to learn about yourself?

“The final module that covered Scrum theory and values really helped me reflect on how those ideas show up in my day-to-day work”

It was especially the way the course managed to cover complex topics in such a concise and clear way. That contrast with how I usually approach things made it obvious where I could improve.

Also, the final module that covered Scrum theory and values really helped me reflect on how those ideas show up in my day-to-day work, and how I could better communicate them to others, especially during onboarding or coaching.

Bridge

Q. How has Better Scrum helped you in the workplace?

“Gave me more clarity on how to bridge theory and real-life Scrum”

It has already helped me accelerate onboarding for new team members and made it easier to spot and address bad practices early on.

It also gave me more clarity on how to bridge theory and real-life Scrum, especially around values, empiricism, and continuous improvement. That’s made my facilitation and coaching more grounded and effective.

Shift

Q. What would be different now you have mastered purpose, principles and values?

“It’s helped me guide conversations toward intentional change and continuous learning”

Now I don’t just “know” the values and principles, I can see how they connect and apply in real team settings. It feels less abstract and more actionable.

That shift has made me more confident when talking about why we do things in Scrum, not just how. It’s helped me guide conversations toward intentional change and continuous learning, which is something I truly value as a Scrum Master.

Diogo is now confidently driving teams with Purpose, Principles and Values.

Sincere congratulations Diogo!
